Amazon announced last month that it would begin construction developments in the Lake Nona area on a more than 2.3 million square-foot warehouse that will pick, pack and ship small items. The project is being built on 130 acres of undeveloped land on the intersection of Boggy Creek Road and Jeff Fuqua Boulevard. Tavistock Development Company, Lake Nona?s developer, sold the land, and the project is being developed in a partnership between Seefried Industrial Properties and an affiliate of USAA Real Estate Company.
Akash Shuan Chauhan, Amazon?s vice president of North America operations, says the new fulfillment center will bring more than 1,500 full-time jobs. Chauhan, along with Gov. Rick Scott, also highlighted the creation of more than 4,000 full-time jobs in Florida since the opening of their first center in 2013.
The facility will be equipped with robots from Amazon Robotics that ?slide underneath shelves that are stacked with heavy items and can move them quickly.? It will also have one of the world?s largest robotic arms, the Robo-Stow, which is able to move even larger quantities of inventory.
Amazon expects the new fulfillment center to be fully operational in 2018.
